It's been a long wait for this one. Knitty launched their Deep Fall issue today and the cover girl may look a little familiar:
If you doubt that's me, check the boots. Thanks to photographer Caro Benna Sheridan for the wonderful images and a fun morning out.
Takoma is my homage to the Cowichan sweater, with traditional details and a few personal embellishments. The guage is lighter, the colors a little brighter, but otherwise, the collar and construction follow the lessons of the many Salish knitters who make these sweaters so vivid and practical to wear.
A poetic detail is that mom has already resolved to make one for my dad (I think she misses that old sweater as much as I do), so I'm about to call her to consult on color combinations. I'll report back.
Edited to add: a lot of people want to know about the boots. Those are my Frye Belted Harness boots, which are still for sale these days. I've had mine for over 20 years, but a little wear gives them a lot of character.
