Anyone catch the article in the Washington Post about our Wendy? If the link doesn’t work, I’m sorry. I subscribe to the Post online, and I was hoping that a direct link to the story would work but you probably have to give them a password first. The story is basically about Wendy’s knitting life online and how her astonishing productivity makes her so fascinating to the rest of us. There’s a nice picture of her with some of her recent output and Lucy spread across her couch. It also mentions where she works and what town she lives in (novel trivia for Wendy watchers) and that she’s taking up teaching at Knit Happens. Nothing too surprising, but certainly fun to see.
I just want Sharon to know that I caught some of her yarn kharma today.
I was somewhere (I can’t say where)
buying something (this would give it away, but let’s just say it was yarn)
and I was talking to a fellow spinner who doesn’t blog but wishes to remain anonymous (thus all the cloak and dagger secrecy: shhhhh)
and I was admitting that while I had done some dying, that I had never carded, nor combed, nor indeed had I handled a raw fleece. And guess what?
She had one out in the trunk of her car. Did I want it?
And a couple of pounds of other things to be spun, like a ball of beautiful chocolate roving bigger than my head, and about eight ounces of Hatchtown roving in a pretty navy-purple colourway that includes shades of teal and turquoise. Just because it was part of a stash given to her by another spinner who had converted to quilting, and she had promised to share. So there I was, ready for sharing.
I fiddled with the Romney fleece it all the way home in the car. This is who you’re sharing the road with, folks. It’s not the cellphone gesticulators you have to worry about: it’s the rogue spinners finger flicking fleece in their front seats.
So a very heartfelt and fawning thank you to my anoymous benefactor.
Tuja is done knitting. Seaming tomorrow. Pictures by the weekend.
